ILARA began with a simple wish: that the piece you keep for the biggest day should still feel like yours on an ordinary one. Everything here is made that way — a kameez cut clean enough to wear to dinner, a kaftan you reach for on a Sunday afternoon, embroidery worked by hand so it reads as detail rather than decoration.
We produce in small runs from London. Tissue silk, raw silk and satin crepe are chosen first; the silhouette follows the fabric, never the other way around. When a size sells, it is usually gone.
Three fabrics, chosen first
Tissue silk. Featherweight and luminous. It shifts between two tones as it catches the light — a cloth that glows rather than shines, and light enough for a full-length kurta without weight at the shoulder.
Raw silk. Structured and slubbed. It holds a line, and the natural slub reads as texture from a distance, so a woven stripe does the work embroidery would otherwise have to.
Hand embroidery. Couched metallic thread, dabka and minute beadwork, worked by hand on the adda. Placed at the neckline, placket and hem — where it is read, not everywhere.
How we produce
Pieces are made in limited runs, and on most styles there is one piece per size. Orders leave London within one to three working days and are tracked on dispatch: UK delivery takes 2–5 working days, international approximately 5–10.
