Size & fit

Every ILARA piece is cut in small runs, so sizing is consistent across a collection but can vary a little between fabrics. Tissue silk and satin crepe fall softly; raw silk holds more structure and reads slightly closer on the body.

The sizes we cut

Most three-piece sets and kurta sets are cut in S, M and L, with selected pieces going up to XL and XXL. A number of our kaftans are cut in one size, designed to fall generously and be worn belted or loose.

Where a size is missing from a product page, that size has sold out. On most pieces we hold one per size, and once a run is finished the pattern is retired.

How to measure

Measure over light clothing, keeping the tape level and comfortably loose rather than tight.

  • Bust — around the fullest part of the bust, with the tape flat across the back.
  • Waist — around the narrowest part of the natural waist, above the hip bone.
  • Hip — around the fullest part of the hip, roughly 20cm below the waist.
  • Length — from the shoulder seam straight down to where you would like the hem to sit.

If you are between sizes, we would generally suggest taking the larger size in raw silk, and either size in tissue silk or satin.

Fit notes

  • Kaftans fall away from the body and are forgiving through the waist and hip.
  • Kurta and three-piece sets are cut closer through the shoulder and bust, with a straighter line through the body. Trousers are cut to be worn at the natural waist.
  • Sharara and palazzo sets are full through the leg; the length is cut for wearing with a heel.
